The pigeons take off poetically from the open bell tower, audibly flapping their wings across the usually completely blue sky, in the silence their shared wingbeats are a whisper of presence.

It's nice to just be.

What is the better plan, based on the things we learned?

- [The waiting Monday | Day 345 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93633-the-waiting-monday) by Cecilie Conrad (Dec 11, 2023): It is nice to sometimes just have a practical day. We needed papers to travel with the dogs, so Silke and I walked to the local vet; smiling, professional, and friendly, she helped us with the paperwork, and we had the pleasure of meeting a real wolf in the waiting room. It was also a day of waiting, as Liv and Erik would arrive in the early evening.
- [The long walk of CDMX | Day 344 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93632-the-long-walk-of-cdmx) by Cecilie Conrad (Dec 10, 2023): The classic pilgrimage to the main art museum, the cathedral, the central square, and the Aztec ruins took us through a rich array of experiences. The market for handmade artifacts, some amazing and some cheap stuff for tourists. The dodgy area where people live in tents in the streets.

The streets with their shiny buildings contrasting the little cargo-bike-food stalls, the architecture of the Anthropological Museum, the London style busses - so many impressions. See them here!
- [Beating Hearts - Museum of Anthropology | Day 343 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93588-beating-hearts) by Jesper Conrad (Dec 9, 2023): I titled this “Beating Hearts” because the Aztecs’ human sacrifice took out the still beating heart of 52 humans EVERY DAY (according to our guide)! A good way to do it while not wasting time is to visit an art museum. Mexican art is like nothing we have seen in Europe. It IS different, consistently, different somehow in the same way, or in a parallel manner, or am I just making it up?
- [Have no Fear | Day 341 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93575-have-no-fear) by Cecilie Conrad (Dec 7, 2023): I am not afraid. I am insecure about how to find my way in this context, how to find solid information in most here-and-now contexts, and how to balance this search with a no-fear strategy. As it happens, life itself seems to save me every time, leaving me with only fairly easy options, enough lovely people, and time to take it slow.
- [Mexican Mind Mystery | Day 340 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93574-mexican-mind-mystery) by Cecilie Conrad (Dec 6, 2023): The story goes (the one I know) that the Huichol people, who make this sort of art, took the peyote juice to enter a state of transcendence in order to be able to talk to the gods. And once back from what we would call an acid trip, they would share what they saw by making this kind of colorful art.

For us Europeans, a REAL gated community with a guard, actually several guards, is seriously exotic. This means there are thousands of paths through fields and along and through other sorts of private land, making England very open to enjoy for everyone.
- [Bradgate park | Day 210 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89334-bradgate-park) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 30, 2023): Watching Britain in a park. The different people, their vibes and styles, and projects. I love to look at people. I was amused by observing most of them still had their shoes on in the water. Where I come from, everyone would take them off.
- [Running alongside a train | Day 209 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89333-running-alongside-a-train) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 29, 2023): It is not like the world will stop spinning until I am done thinking. Wouldn’t that be nice, though? If the planet would please stop spinning, the inner processes give us a break when we need to sit down and THINK.
- [Canterbury Cathedral | Day 208 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89162-canterbury-cathedral) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 28, 2023): We have seen a lot of European Cathedrals, as in very many. It is one of my passions to visit them, as I find them all astoundingly beautiful,
- [Too much to do. In the rain | Day 207 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89161-too-much-to-do-in-the-rain) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 27, 2023): Sinead O Conor died. Fjord's best friend called. When we finally went for a little walk, the rain started again. We shared the wash. Discussed shampoo. Met new people. Did two podcast recordings back to back. Organized the van a bit. Tried yeast-extract Marmite Style.
- [The Weekly Walk habit | Day 206 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89151-the-weekly-walk-habit) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 26, 2023): Walk and talk is just as perfect together as dahl and rice or sunshine and beach. Here are some observations on England as we walked there, some thoughts on unschooling as we walked with two other unschooling families and my whispering intention to try to build a real habit.
- [Ladies Fixing The World | Day 205 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89148-ladies-fixing-the-world) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 24, 2023): On Learn Nothing Day, 24th of July, I launched my podcast, which I am doing with 3 Ladies, two in this house in The Midlands and one in Tenerife. They are all three travelers and unschoolers, and we are all friends.
- [S1E1 | Da Ladies Fixing the world](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/103021-da-ladies-fixing-the-world) by Jesper Conrad (Jul 24, 2023): Four unschooling parents on how they left the school system, what de-schooling actually looks like, and why unschooling isn't something you do — it's something you live.
- [Moving North | Day 204 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89044-moving-north) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 23, 2023): The sunshine in the garden, the writing explosion, the driving, the arrival in sisterhood, the laughter. Perfect. Just perfect.
- [Learn Nothing Day, Compliance and Avoidance | Day 203 of my 2023 Journal | England ](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88976-learn-nothing-day-compliance-and-avoidance) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 22, 2023): Learn Nothing Day combined with my genuine shock reaction to a new-to-me three-letter diagnosis inspired this text about leaving children be, accepting our parental responsibility of love and support, and shaking off the madness of demands and structure surrounding mainstream family life. Welcome to a rampage about freedom, trust, and real reality.
- [Wilderness Wood | Day 202 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89020-wilderness-wood) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 21, 2023): Martin’s family introduced us to Wilderness Wood, a beautiful project close to where they live, where home-educated children take classes in woodwork and pottery, enjoy the forest and each other, where people co-live and share life, where people live and learn and grow.
- [England, finally | Day 201 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89017-england-finally) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 20, 2023): Last year just around this time, we did not make it to England. Paperwork not in order. We had another great summer adventure, and it was all good. But NOW, we want to go to the lands of Shakespeare, Stonehenge, The Beatles, Queen Elisabeth, the Viking invasions, and you go on with the list.
- [Sandra Dodd | Learn Nothing Day - Unschooling and the Complexities of Parenting](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/sandra-dodd-2) by Jesper Conrad (Jul 20, 2023): This is an episode to celebrate Learn Nothing Day. Sandra Dodd's birthday is on July 24th, and as a joke, she started 'Learn Nothing Day,' - now an international holiday for unschoolers — a day where we each year try to learn nothing and fail :)
- [Calais | Day 200 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89015-calais) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 19, 2023): Moving through the day, we had to get practical things done and place the vehicles at the station for campers, watch a documentary, and go for a walk to look at Calais. We might need to give Calais more time.
- [The why revisited | Day 199 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89013-the-why-revisited) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 18, 2023): I am unsure why I keep writing these small stories about our travels. Some days it seems like an unnecessary chore. Writing every day about what happened and what we thought about seemed like a great idea in the beginning. I thought it would help me keep track of things.
- [Chilling | Day 198 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89001-chilling) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 17, 2023): All the little things. The little things that are actually big. We did them. All day long and very far into the late evening.
So it goes sometimes. The adventure can be the silence.
- [The Gent Festival | Day 197 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/89010-the-gent-festival) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 16, 2023): This time we had a plan! No loud music, no big crowds. We went out to see the Gentfest, but the focus was to find street artists, street musicians, some food, and just some hanging out time.
- [Sailing and hanging out | Day 196 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88833-sailing-and-hanging-out) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 15, 2023): We have friends everywhere, except where we don’t - so we go there to make new ones. A bit overwhelmed by the ones we already have, and now holding a streak of socializing EVERY DAY since mid-April, we are strong social ones.
- [A Sick dog, a bit of driving, and a lovely evening | Day 195 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88831-a-sick-dog) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 14, 2023): A thing I find beautiful is the people! Marjan is the sister of a friend we have in El Vendrell. Marjan always said: "Just come over if you are ever in Belgium," - Last year we said yes - and it was so fun that we invited ourselves again :)
- [Rain, bikini-body, and container-obsession | Day 194 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88769-rain-bikini-body) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 13, 2023): We found a campervan park at a harbor in Holland. It was full of roses and other flowers, someone attended them beautifully, harbors are always beautiful, and on top of all that, there was a special treat: The view to a container facility, where I could obsess over worldwide logistics and the moving systems of vast chunks of stuff.
- [Bremen | Day 193 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88761-bremen) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 12, 2023): We visited the science museum Universum. It is a good one of its sort, with only one downside - the lack of oxygen! Would they please open a window?!
- [Moving on | Day 192 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88759-moving-on) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 11, 2023): The core of the nomad lifestyle is to move on. Ever so often, when we go somewhere, we feel the time allocated for the place and the people are to restricted: We want to stay for months. We say that over and over: We could stay here for a month! Or two! I wonder when we will learn to trust the process fully.
- [The social nomad | Day 191 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88757-the-social-nomad) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 10, 2023): Our children are not dependent on a social field of: A) lack of trust of adults (because they always have an agenda, and they don’t trust you). B) too many other children you are forced to spend EVERY DAY with for up to NINE hours.
- [Synchronicity | Day 190 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88671-synchronicity) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 9, 2023): The connection between our exit and the weather change would be perceived as non-existent and strange to even think about. Yet, Jung described these perceived synchronicities in human life as important and meaningful awareness of the subject towards essential life elements.
- [Everything matters | Day 189 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88628-everything-matters) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 8, 2023): What matters the most is we stay alert and awake spiritually; we stay alive and present and ready to enjoy the journey of life. That we can engage in a state of flow and love, trusting what we do and don’t do to be the “right” choices. “Everything matters”
- [Stay in flow | Day 188 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88625-stay-in-flow) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 7, 2023): Emotions are a good guidance system. When at peace, all is good; when excited, we are on track to something important, when annoyed, frustrated, or angry, there is something to let go of, either an idea, an ego vibe, or an attachment to some version of reality not currently available.
- [Halfway done! | Day 187 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88624-halfway-done) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 6, 2023): Having a clear value system and a clear goal makes it so much easier to “miss out” on what is happening here and now to achieve a greater goal. There is nothing I recommend higher than getting clear on goals and values. And re-doing it ever so often. What is important? Where are we going? And why?
- [The adventure is the people | Day 186 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88598-the-adventure-is-the-people) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 5, 2023): Little did we know, before we left, that co-living would become our style. Initially, it seemed strange to move in with people, but lo and behold - right there was the light.
- [The zero-day | Day 185 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88595-the-zero-day) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 4, 2023): One of the significant advantages of the nomad lifestyle is scarcity. It keeps us awake. The fact we are not staying long anywhere makes it always urgent to prioritize and do what is the most important always. We can not fool ourselves; we have to do what is on top of the list.
- [On the road again | Day 184 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88593-on-the-road-again) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 3, 2023): It is interesting how our life seems to be out here; our home base is moving around; we feel comfortable and happy when we have collected our energy, stuff, and plans into this tiny box on wheels.
- [This day is a true blessing | Day 183 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88591-this-day-is-a-true-blessing) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 2, 2023): “This day is a true blessing. Let’s not be afraid to use the word! Sharing all of the hours all of us together and how it unfolds truly is a blessing”.
- [Århus | Day 182 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88589-aarhus) by Cecilie Conrad (Jul 1, 2023): In the second largest city in Denmark, Århus lives one of my father's little brothers. The one I have the closest relationship to. We went to a nearby beach for the night, so we would be ready to spend the day with him.
- [A Rose garden | Day 181 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88587-a-rose-garden) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 30, 2023): Roses are one of the garden disciplines to enjoy. Why do we even do it? Roses are delicate, vulnerable, and unique. They take time; they take skill; they take effort, they take feel.
- [Productive | Day 180 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88582-productive) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 29, 2023): I am not sure I like being productive and working to achieve my goals. I am not sure I like my top 3 from the daily to-do list, my set intentions, and my boxing of time. It seems like a loss of a lot of freedom.
- [Nomad daily life | Day 179 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88578-nomad-daily-life) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 28, 2023): I sit with the pain. I feel it. I feel the deep love and allow the pain to be. It is all okay. The root is love. And love is the meaning of everything. So, we are good. Secondly, I remind myself no plans are so set they can not be changed, hence our house rule of writing our plans with a pencil.
- [Writing a book | Day 178 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88576-writing-a-book) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 27, 2023): I have been wanting to write a book for a while now. Sometimes life throws something at you. At the right time, and the right place, in the right context, and with the right vibe. Read about the start of my book project here!
- [Do not be afraid - My Aunt Else | Day 177 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88570-there-is-a-sadness-creeping-in) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 26, 2023): Else is 99 years. She approached me at my Grandads funeral some ten years ago, and told me who she was - she is the younger sister of my late granddad younger sister, I had never met her before - she said she would love to be a great-grandmother to my children and happy to get to know my family.
- [There is a sadness creeping in | Day 175 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88561-there-is-a-sadness-creeping-in) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 25, 2023): There is a sadness creeping in as we do our last rounds in Denmark this summer. The price for the adventure is being paid right now. Only five weeks in our home country in total this year is taking its toll.
- [Garden Party | Day 174 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88303-garden-party) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 24, 2023): When we came back from Sweden, we said goodbye to our oldest and delivered her back to her boyfriend and her home in Copenhagen. Then we drove to my sister's house, equally in Copenhagen. Hugged the nieces and cooked some food. We were tired, and the following day I crashed.
- [Leaving Sweden | Day 173 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88310-leaving-sweden) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 23, 2023): The summer nights are fantastic here, and with even one more sentimental emotion, we stick to our plan of leaving Scandinavia in high summer to get to visit other countries in the North.

Somehow we can not be everywhere at the same time.
- [Learning to the highest potential | Day 172 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/88214-learning-to-the-highest-potential) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 22, 2023): But worse, much worse, is to impose this ambition on OTHERS, Adults want to set the scene for their (or others’) children to learn to their highest potential. Let's NOT do that. Let’s just be. Let be. Choose to be. And what to be. Remember, the “highest potential” of this life is to live it.

- [Mary Griffith | Unlocking Passions and Potential: The Power of Unschooling and Family Support](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/mary-griffith) by Jesper Conrad (Jun 22, 2023): Discover how unschooling empowered Mary Griffith's daughters to pursue their interests without school constraints and gain insights into their unique educational experiences.
- [Summer Solstice | Day 171 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86767-summer-solstice) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 21, 2023): One of the reasons we chose to become nomadic was my winter depression, and one clear sign for us was when I started worrying at Summer Solstice. On the shortest night, I would know how the rhythm was turning, how the darkness was coming, and it would ruin everything for me.
- [Life of Pi | Day 170 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86765-life-of-pi) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 20, 2023): Creating a better story is a way to survive a challenging situation emotionally. The question is: Do we always do that? And is the so-called reality of the challenging situation more True than how we choose to see it? What is the difference between the narrative as a coping mechanism and deep understanding?
- [What is that unschooling thing? | Day 169 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86763-what-is-that-unschooling-thing) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 19, 2023): True unschooling is a lifestyle where the whole idea of school has been removed from the equation, the idea of “you have to learn” and the idea of the curriculum. Both. Both need to go in order for it to be unschooling.
- [Look for what you need in what you have | Day 168 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86672-look-for-what-you-need-in-what-you-have) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 18, 2023): We live in a world of consumerism. Always shopping. Always using something. What if we stop? Stop to think. What if we let go?

- [Mothering | Day 167 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86659-mothering) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 17, 2023): One thing I do not understand about modern parents. It seems they can’t get away from their children fast enough; it seems all they talk about is how annoying, misbehaved, noisy, and messy the kids are. They (the adults) whine about the chores that accompany parenthood and the losses of time, money, silence, and freedom - and I don’t get it.
- [Silent time | Day 166 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86657-silent-time) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 16, 2023): It is some form of rebellion to stop and be silent and do simple slow stuff of no obvious value. To the world, it seems we always have to be productive and efficient, so not doing so and being openly and on purpose silent and slow is my simple pushing back.
- [The last bottle of champagne | Day 165 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86655-the-last-bottle-of-champagne) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 15, 2023): On the last day we spent with my sister's family in Sweden, we shared the last bottle of champagne from my mother, whom we all lost four years ago. It meant a lot. The little smile. The sigh. The time we get to share. Even the losses we share.
- [20: Ronni Abergel | The Human Library - Unjudge Someone - Creating a Safe Space for Dialogue](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/ronni-abergel) by Jesper Conrad (Jun 15, 2023): Challenge stereotypes with the Human Library: Discover a unique concept where human beings share their stories and experiences. Bridge gaps, foster empathy, and promote understanding.
- [ Live Learn Love | Day 164 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86630-live-learn-love) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 13, 2023): Thriving is a complex one. Human nature, our flaws, and vulnerabilities will emerge in any context where we unfold, hence also in this reign. We can learn a lot from studying the seven deadly sins and looking for temptation in our own lives.
- [The value of home-making | Day 163 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86636-the-value-of-home-making) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 12, 2023): I am very much a homemaker. This is interesting, as at the same time, I am a true nomad. I find it intriguing how I can at the one hand love to move around so frequently and at the same time enjoy the home-making processes of setting a space for social life, and establishing a kitchen with fermentation and sprouting.
- [The Lake and the present moment | Day 162 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86629-the-lake-and-the-present-moment) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 11, 2023): I read about the book “Your stolen focus,” which got me thinking about my focus. How I hardly ever meditate anymore, and how my mind drifts (which is a good thing) and my focus dissolves (which is a bad thing).
- [Swedish memories | Day 161 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86628-swedish-memories) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 10, 2023): Sweden is somehow a second motherland for me, and l love being back for a while. I love how old memories mix with new experiences and how reflections on past times add to the depth of the current moment, like new strings on an instrument or different resonance.
- [Scandinavian Summer Nights | Day 160 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86625-scandinavian-summer-nights) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 9, 2023): Happiness is a state of mind, a concept hard to define and maybe even harder to achieve. There are many things we can do to enhance the chances for happiness to enter, but it is probably impossible to aim directly for it.
- [Sweet Sweden | Day 159 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86497-sweet-sweden) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 8, 2023): Ten days in Sweet Sweden is waiting. Nothing on the calendar but sunshine, forest, birdsong. Beautiful.
- [Naomi Aldort | The Power of Connection in Parenting](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/naomi-aldort) by Jesper Conrad (Jun 8, 2023): Discover the philosophy of authentic parenting and unleash your child's potential. Naomi Aldort shares transformative insights for raising confident, free-thinking children.
- [More is more | Day 158 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86496-more-is-more) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 7, 2023): The saying “less is more” has been around for a long time, and it makes sense to a lot of people. The minimalist movement has been big, and it is an important one. Stuff, as well as projects, accumulate, and the consumerism culture is moving at high speed.
- [Pushing children | Day 157 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86425-pushing-children) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 6, 2023): Adults obsess about making rules, and setting “boundaries” for children so that they understand = obey. I find it hilarious because adults don’t respect the boundaries of the children. The contrast between the respect wanted and claimed, and the respect given is enormous.
- [Your focus determines your reality | Day 156 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86424-your-focus-determines-your-reality) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 5, 2023): I trust we are always at the right place at the right time. It is a matter of mindset. Of trusting the process. Of focus. As Chi-Gon (master of Obiwan) says: “Always remember: Your focus determines your reality.” This is such a deep truth. And so we welcome new adventures.
- [Life witnesses and sailing through the city | Day 155 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86414-life-witnesses-and-sailing-through-the-city) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 4, 2023): Copenhagen is a city by the water. We sailed the canals together with my soul-friend Tamiko and her partner on a big raft. Spending a day on the water with friends in the sunshine is such a luxury. We sailed all afternoon, had meaningful conversations, feet in the water. Storm read “The old man and the Sea” on the raft, and it was perfect.
- [When you think you have a plan | Day 154 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86412-when-you-think-you-have-a-plan) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 3, 2023): Some days are overloaded with to-do. If we lean back and trust the process, they might unfold beautifully. When we sat around the porridge and berries, the list of things to do was huge and seemed impossible.
- [Shakespeare and Nostalgia | Day 153 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86342-shakespeare-and-nostalgia) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 2, 2023): A friend of mine told me about a Shakespeare open-air play in one of the central parks - The Tempest, a play I had never heard about. It was funny, moving, relevant, brutal, existential, full of insanity and love (Shakespeares' favorite mix), tragedy and comedy, ribbing out the innermost vulnerable elements of human life and bending it in neon.
- [The narrow path versus the narrow life | Day 152 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86341-the-narrow-path-versus-the-narrow-life) by Cecilie Conrad (Jun 1, 2023): I sometimes tell myself this: If I do what is hard (make my way through the narrow path of doing what I find right despite all systems around me), my life becomes easy (as in I am happy and present and know I am on track in my life).
- [The New Copenhagen | Day 151 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86330-the-new-copenhagen) by Cecilie Conrad (May 31, 2023): If I were ever to move back to my hometown, I would not choose the new areas. I would stick to be me. And hope to find some of the wild lives, some of the extreme kind of thinking, and some of the raw and untamed non-matrix lives I have always loved in my city.

- [Tivoli is my Copenhagen | Day 150 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86329-tivoli-is-my-copenhagen) by Cecilie Conrad (May 30, 2023): When my first child was a little one, I was a single mom with half an education, a tight budget, a small apartment, and a good life. We had a lot of fun! We were Copenhageners with cargo bikes and a love for the city space.
- [ Beautiful Copenhagen and our alternative life | Day 149 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86328-beautiful-copenhagen-and-our-alternative-life) by Cecilie Conrad (May 29, 2023): When we let go of the ideas of how “it is supposed to be,” we are left in a peaceful place. When we learn to live with less, happy if we have “it all,” and happy if we have “some,” then life is so much easier. We are happy and so ready for this special event. A week in our favorite city - the one we come from. Beautiful Copenhagen.
- [The journaling challenge | Day 148 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86261-the-journaling-challenge) by Cecilie Conrad (May 28, 2023): When I started this challenge 148 days ago, I planned to share a photo daily, along with a snippet of text related to the day before—a simple travel-journal challenge. I have loved doing it. It has grown a lot. I try to ignore the attention from social media. Well, I do not ignore the people talking to me, obviously, but I try to avoid being hungry for it. It can be hard, likes can be addictive.
- [Gaming | Day 147 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86258-gaming) by Cecilie Conrad (May 27, 2023): Wuau, it has been a roller coaster! Gaming might be the most potent example of the importance of Deschooling in my entire journey as an unschooling mom. Wuau it is complicated. What are we afraid of? Today I will try it myself and see what happens. I might have some fun!
- [Moments | Day 146 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86195-moments) by Cecilie Conrad (May 26, 2023): Not all days sport Rocking things to Rant about or big themes to play Wise with Wisdom around. Some days are silent resonance boxes. So much love. So many decisions. So much to do. All the moments. All of the long lines. The responsibility.
- [Book release in Copenhagen House of Poetry | Day 145 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86194-book-release-in-copenhagen-house-of-poetry) by Cecilie Conrad (May 25, 2023): The artist was reading out loud, while the musician created music with the movement of paper, her cello, her guitar, the silences in between, and the poems dripping through, dancing over, creeping in under your skin, into the brain, making you think, making you feel. I am humbled by the fact, the artist is my daughter.
- [17: Samuel KingDavis | The Adventure Is the People: An Interview with the caricature artist](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/samuel-kingdavis-1) by Jesper Conrad (May 25, 2023): Join us on Samuel KingDavis' journey from hotdog vendor to renowned caricature artist. - [Dinner at Åmarksgård | Day 144 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86211-dinner-at-aamarksgaard) by Cecilie Conrad (May 24, 2023): To share a meal with loved ones is a beautiful thing. We have sat down many times around this table and are grateful to have these wonderful friends in our life. Always the perfect balance between learning, growing, enjoying, and simply being.
- [The me-time concept | Day 143 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86163-the-me-time-concept) by Cecilie Conrad (May 24, 2023): When my kids were small, and I realized the craziness of mainstream (even state-supported) advice for families, me-time was a huge thing. Young parents were told they needed time to themselves, alone or together as a couple. It is one of the returning questions: Don't we need time alone? You know what? (Warning rant coming) ...
- [Nomad logistics | Day 142 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86162-nomad-logistics) by Cecilie Conrad (May 23, 2023): My husband and Storm had to fly to Barcelona to see the dentist. Early morning flight, a quick vegan, gluten-free pizza from Flax and Kale, a friend drove by with a blender and gave a good hug, then the dentist, more street food, and a taxi to the airport landing in Copenhagen just after midnight.
- [Overnight oats with Ebbe | Day 141 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86161-overnight-oats-with-ebbe) by Cecilie Conrad (May 21, 2023): Over the years I have learned to know my value. I have gained energy and focus. I am less chaotic. This is a great advantage of a nomadic lifestyle: Things come into perspective when we return to the same places, like mirrors showing us our progress or our detours.
- [ It is a Miracle | Day 140 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86159-may-the-forest-be-with-you) by Cecilie Conrad (May 20, 2023): There were tears, we fell to our knees, and the relief was huge. Nova was born sound and safe. We welcome her with all that we are, all we have. Deeply moved by the miracle and forever thankful for the life we have been given.
- [May the forest be with you | Day 139 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86158-may-the-forest-be-with-you) by Cecilie Conrad (May 19, 2023): One of the root problems behind climate stuff is disconnection. From each other. From love. From nature. From a humble and grateful perspective. This feeds consumerism, speed, need, and greed. Without the deep connectedness to our souls, to The Force, we can not live fulfilled lives and will feel hungry and dissatisfied forever.
- [Cancer survivor | Day 138 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86089-cancer-survivor) by Cecilie Conrad (May 19, 2023): On the 18th of June, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. And so, the roller coaster started. I was diagnosed. We all panicked. The doctor told me in the first sentence they could cure it, and I said I did not want statistics. I would go straight for that narrow option, however narrow it was, but I needed not to know the numbers.
- [Home is... | Day 137 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86056-home-is) by Cecilie Conrad (May 18, 2023): To me, home is where my family is. Home is the love. Everything else is practical: The food, the clothes, the computers, the books. This matters much less than the feel of home, the love and commitment of having each other's back, of being in a private space, of unconditional love.
- [16: Sandra Dodd | Always Learning: A Conversation with Unschooling](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/sandra-dodd-1) by Jesper Conrad (May 18, 2023): Dive into the world of unschooling with Sandra Dodd, an influential figure in the movement. Explore deschooling, challenges, and the philosophy of child-centered learning.
- [Do you dare to share? | Day 136 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/86055-do-you-dare-to-share) by Cecilie Conrad (May 17, 2023): I hardly know how to visit people anymore. With the Attwood family, we live our lives on top of and around each other. We all do our thing, and the harmony is perfect, no less. The way we merge our energies, and have conversations picking up and leaving loose ends with no stress, is my favorite way of being around our friends.

- [The German Connection | Day 135 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85985-the-german-connection) by Cecilie Conrad (May 16, 2023): Ten years ago, Chris and Doris Attwood were suddenly in my living room in Copenhagen. Our families have been inspiring each other for a decade now, dancing in circles. Even on the first day, we knew there was something important going on in this relationship, as - to be fair - most often, there is something important going on.
- [The adventure is the people | Day 134 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85984-the-adventure-is-the-people) by Cecilie Conrad (May 15, 2023): The adventure is not about WHERE we go, but rather WHO we meet.

In the new relations lies the true adventure. Most important is the relation itself, but shooting off from there comes to the stories, the vibes, and the knowledge making the actual travel adventure so much richer. As a friend of ours puts it: All I need is a place to sleep and a friend to show me around, then I am ready to go anywhere.
- [Is this Ibiza?! | Day 133 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85981-is-this-ibiza) by Cecilie Conrad (May 14, 2023): I know all pain comes from the distance between how I perceive reality to be and how I want it to be, so I try to flip it around. To say to myself I trust the process; I would not want it any different; I am grateful for every moment I get, and I would not want them all to be equal. The fact things change is a premise, and I love the adventure.
- [It is never really goodbye | Day 132 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85979-it-is-never-really-goodbye) by Cecilie Conrad (May 13, 2023): The families are starting to leave. Nomads always move around, and now the castle experience is ending. Everyone is going in different directions.
The circles meet over and over; plans are being made all the time of when and where to meet again. As one of the beautiful teens said: It is not that hard to meet again when both families are nomadic. It is much harder to see people again if they live in the same place.
- [All the little things | Day 131 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85978-all-the-little-things) by Cecilie Conrad (May 12, 2023): I love days of "little things" - days where I just follow along, do my yoga, organize things, and just are in flow with life. I am grateful for the fact that I don’t have to go to work. I am not part of a system of showing up, looking good, and performing within someone else’s time frame and frame of mind.
- [Martin Cooke | Navigating Fatherhood and being a Stay-at-Home Dad](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/martin-cooke) by Jesper Conrad (May 11, 2023): Redefine masculinity with homeschool dad Martin Cooke. Explore safe spaces, alternative education, and the power of vulnerability in this podcast episode.
- [Happiness | Day 130 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85840-happiness) by Cecilie Conrad (May 10, 2023): Most people do not know what makes them happy. They think they do, but they don’t. I find it crucial to always be aware of our core values, our next goals, our dreams, and big and small things we could put on our bucket lists and vision boards, so we can be clear on why we do what we do.
- [Conversations | Day 129 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85841-conversations) by Cecilie Conrad (May 9, 2023): In the flow of life, as it goes, we rarely stop to think about how much effort goes into conversations. Communication is crucial for human life; we need to communicate to survive and thrive, we learn from communication, and we share so much more information than the spoken word when we communicate. The tone of voice, the timing, the body language, how we carry ourselves, the frequency.
- [Trust the process | Day 128 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85823-trust-the-process) by Cecilie Conrad (May 8, 2023): Unpacking and unlearning our fears and hidden agendas is most of the work of unschooling parents. We don’t judge a child who builds a tower of bricks to see it fall 50 times a day; somehow, we all agree and understand that toddler needs this, but we do judge older children when they do “nothing.” But how can we know?
- [Cold morning dip and slow living | Day 127 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85817-cold-morning-dip-and-slow-living) by Cecilie Conrad (May 7, 2023): I think I might be addicted. It was a beautiful morning with mist and women and the sun working hard to find its way through the moisture. We drove through the green landscape while waking up, getting ready for the cold water.
- [We are so radical, yet I find us completely natural | Day 126 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85772-we-are-so-radical-yet-i-find-us-completely-natural) by Cecilie Conrad (May 6, 2023): We laughed so much about the state of the world, the coronation rituals, ADBLUE in motors, rules, and regulations, how unschooling dads are of a certain composition, how we have to stay strong and soft and clear, how we don’t want anything to do with mediocracy, safety, boring normal.
- [Prom at the castle | Day 125 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85742-prom-at-the-castle) by Cecilie Conrad (May 5, 2023): How we dress and why is an interesting topic we have discussed hundreds of times in our family. It can be allabsorbing and too much, and how “not caring” can almost be a style. There is no way around the fact we see each other, and the clothes we wear send a signal about who we are and how we carry life. The art is to know it, do it, and not care too much.
- [Liberté, égalité, fraternité | Day 124 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85713-liberte-egalite-fraternite) by Cecilie Conrad (May 4, 2023): How can you be free when you are always told what to do? When you are taught to obey? Where is the brotherhood in a forced social field, in the build-in competition deriving from age segregation? Where is the kindness in testing and comparison?
- [Darcia Narvaez | The Evolved Nest: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Parenting and a Connected Society](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/darcia-narvaez) by Jesper Conrad (May 4, 2023): What if the key to raising well-adjusted, connected children lies in the practices of our ancestors? Join us as we explore the evolved nest with Darcia Narvaez.
- [Life is like... | Day 123 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85712-life-is-like) by Cecilie Conrad (May 3, 2023): One of the things we do most in our unschooling life is to talk. Many unschooling families tend to say the same: We talk and talk and talk. And doing so, we learn, we grow, we connect.
- [Mont Saint Michel | Day 122 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85663-mont-saint-michel) by Cecilie Conrad (May 2, 2023): Once more, we woke up at the beach and joined the early birds running for a cold morning dip. What a wonderful thing to do in the morning, and so much fun with friends.

Moving on, we spent a good hour in and around BioCoop, while Jesper had a Zoom meeting. We made our morning bowls, prepped the lunch, and organized the van before we drove off to Mont Saint Michel.
- [Cold salt water morning | Day 121 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85658-cold-salt-water-morning) by Cecilie Conrad (May 1, 2023): As I am writing this, I will admit I am exhausted. I rolled out of bed at eight and joined the cold dip challenge. It was indeed cold.
We are totally hooked. It is such a great start to the day.
- [Worldschool pop-up event | Day 120 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85647-worldschool-pop-up-event) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 30, 2023): The pop-up event has officially started. Twenty-two more families were arriving on top of the 14 already here. We are excited to reunite with old friends and to get to know more like-minded people. It is unique to be around so many people for us, so many on the same page as us.
- [Everything Stops | Day 119 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85602-everything-stops) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 29, 2023): I get to learn over and over to trust the process. Live unfolds beautifully. And that there is no need to panic. Any panic works against the unfolding of things. To be fair, it is not that bad when everything stops for a while. It is a pause—a pause to remember how blessed we are and how much love there is in this universe.
- [The Marsh | Day 118 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85518-the-marsh) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 28, 2023): It is very moist here. Rain comes in and out, grass full of dew in the morning, and the marsh vibrating with a baseline of water. We have been told it comes and goes with the seasons and that the spot of the castle, which is called an island literally, was picked originally by the Vikings because it was so well protected by the unpredictability of the landscape surrounding it.
- [Parachute guy, the women, and yet another bonfire | Day 117 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85517-parachute-guy) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 27, 2023): During D-day, one of the parachuters had the bad luck of getting stuck hanging from the church tower. As the village at the time was taken over by the Germans, he hid himself in plain sight by pretending to be dead.
- [Climbing in Caen | Day 116 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85516-climbing-in-caen) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 26, 2023): To be challenged into a comfort zone is a very healthy thing. When we do things we would normally not do, we discover new elements of our vulnerability and sometimes new strengths. Even in our lifestyle, we seem to fall into habits, and though they might be good, it is always healthy to challenge them, to stop and think about them, to learn new ways, and get new ideas.
- [The Bayeux Tapestry and how we absorb | Day 115 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85491-happy-birthday-to-me) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 25, 2023): The way history is taught in schools, dripping from a curriculum, emerging from books written for “children” underestimating their intelligence will, for most students, forever be irrelevant. There is no way learning will ever be meaningful if it is not: 1. Voluntary - 2. Makes sense - 3.Is relevant.
- [Hotel Beaumont and Starwars | Day 114 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85503-hotel-beaumont-and-starwars) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 24, 2023): Just like the Hotel Beaumont was in many ways a re-play, we can never enter the same river twice, and watching Star Wars with Fjord was like visiting the museum in the morning, a lovely new way of engaging with something known.
- [Mama Mia Marathon | Day 113 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85502-mama-mia-marathon) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 23, 2023): It is so lovely to see a group of teenagers not afraid to show up in their nightgown, not afraid to be silly, not afraid to wear a pink unicorn jumpsuit, not afraid to fall asleep during the movie, not afraid to ask “stupid” questions on the plot. It was especially lovely to hear them all sing along to the wonderful Abba songs.
- [Playtime | Day 112 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85438-playtime) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 22, 2023): Free play is at the center of Peter Gray's thinking, and I agree very much, especially with the “free” element. Play is this funny adult construction: We call it “play” when children interact with the world in their own free way, and we call it “creative space” or whatever when adults do the same. The looking down upon children's activities soaks through so many layers of adult thinking. Most adults find play a waste of time.
- [Happy Birthday to me | Day 111 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85411-happy-birthday-to-me) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 21, 2023): On my birthday, honestly, a few days ago, as I was “falling behind,” I did not have to plan anything. The castle stay is already a party, and there is no way my birthday is more important than my children hanging out with their new friends.

- [On math and unschooling - Rome Easter 2023](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84864-on-math-and-unschooling) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 20, 2023): What if math was voluntary? What if we recognize the fact that all math, including high school level, can be learned by a motivated person in 3 months? Six if we take it easy.
- [The Big Bad Curriculum | Day 110 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85350-the-big-bad-curriculum) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 20, 2023): Children are fed into the schooling machine, and inside that machine is an agenda, a vast and complex and not very transparent secret agenda called The Curriculum. Everyone working for the machine has to serve The Curriculum.
- [12: Lucy AitkenRead | From London to a Yurt: A Journey of Unschooling and Self-Discovery](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/lucy-aitkenread-1) by Jesper Conrad (Apr 20, 2023): Have you ever wondered what it would be like to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and embrace the wild? This episode features an incredible conversation with Lucy AitkenRead, a nomadic adventurer who shares her family's journey from London to off-grid living in New Zealand.
- [The deschooling onion | Day 109 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85177-the-deschooling-onion) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 19, 2023): As my parents divorced early in my life and hated each other throughout the rest of their time, my little person became a battlefield. They would always look for the other person in me and come after me if they saw an influence they did not like.
- [Well Behaved | Day 108 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85150-well-behaved) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 18, 2023): Free children just live their lives and can read a room, take care of others, keep themselves clean and healthy, and create good vibes and a meaningful life for themselves and those around them. It is not behaving. It is living.
- [The Vikings were here | Day 107 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85151-the-vikings-were-here) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 17, 2023): And as the Vikings left Scandinavia to settle and travel all over, I sometimes feel I never really left my culture. I just built upon old traditions when I became nomadic. Our friends in Catalunia always called us Los Vikingos. Maybe it is not all that wrong.
- [Co-living with freedom people | Day 106 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85124-co-living-with-freedom-seekers) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 16, 2023): We are all freedom people. This makes it all very easy. We are probably all grateful to spend time together fighting off similar demons while living in a large group for a while.
- [Climbing in Caen of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85507-climbing-in-caen) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 16, 2023): To be challenged into a comfort zone is a very healthy thing. When we do things we would normally not do, we discover new elements of our vulnerability and sometimes new strengths.
- [Arriving at the Castle-event | Day 105 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85123-arriving-at-the-castle) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 15, 2023): The place itself is simple and beautiful, very rural. The landscape of marsh, trees, birds singing, and storks. Green beautiful springtime. The castle is cozy and welcoming. And the people were, for some part, people we had already met, some of them new to us.
- [I was, in many ways, a strange child | Day 104 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84917-strange-child) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 14, 2023): When I met the community of homeschoolers, it was like walking through the closet in the first Narnia book (the darkness and Insecurity of the radical choice) to find myself in a sparking and beautiful social world of what I today call Real People.
- [The French Alpes - Sometimes van life is just perfect | Day 103 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84901-the-french-alpes) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 13, 2023): We ARE willing to go far outside our comfort zone, yet we also want to focus on what matters the most in the given situation.
We realize finding peace is very much about being ready. Ready to be ready.
- [Home Sweet Roadtrip | Day 102 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84900-home-sweet-roadtrip) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 12, 2023): Viareggio was a lovely rest; oh, did we enjoy sleeping in our own beds. We chose this spot because there was some street art at the harbor and some sculptures on the mole.
- [The privilege of documents | Day 101 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84899-the-privilege-of-documents) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 11, 2023): Five years on the roads, and I see the pattern. The marketplaces are worked by the same products and same people; more or less, the landmarks and main evening hangout places worked by the same group, selling the same products, just as the white blankets with sneakers and bags are worked by the same people. People without documents. Good people without options.
- [One hundred | Day 100 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84898-one-hundred-day-100-of-my-2023-journal) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 10, 2023): In the silent chapel, one message came clearly to me: Let peace fall upon you. In my life, it was my grandmother's words, and now God did a replay for me, reminding me of peace. I always pray for clarity, for help to find my way through life, and the message was to let peace enter.
- [Hope is not an illusion | Day 99 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84756-hope-is-not-an-illusion) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 9, 2023): Hope is not an illusion. Hope lifts us out of what is; hope is how we transcend. Not just spiritually but on all levels of life. When we dare to hope, we lift out of the gravity of what is and move into becoming.

- [The same boat | Day 98 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84731-the-same-boat) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 8, 2023): It is so easy to be annoyed with other people, and it is a common trap to believe your perspective is proper and that others got it wrong. I sometimes talk with other radical people, and even in these conversations, it is easy to condemn those inside the box. Feeling smarter and better. Let us not forget we all have a journey, and we are all worthy.
- [Just hanging out | Day 97 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84674-just-hanging-out) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 7, 2023): Just hanging out is a great luxury. In the morning, we all did our thing: The teenagers went for a walk and a croissant at the vegan, gluten-free bakery they had found, I did some morning shopping for the family, my husband did his yoga, and the youngest caught up with some sleep.

- [The memories | Day 96 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84665-the-memories) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 6, 2023): Why do we travel to see churches we might forget? Why do we read books that might fade from our memory? Well. Because we are alive. Because the process of living, of leaning into the universe, touching the people we meet, absorbing from what is, adjusting to the immediate changes, or initiating them is what we do as humans.
- [Shannon Hayes | Redefining Rich, Living Sustainably and Unschooling for a Fulfilling Life](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/self-directed/shannon-hayes-1) by Jesper Conrad (Apr 6, 2023): Explore redefining success with Shannon Hayes, a leading advocate for sustainable agriculture and radical homemaking, who aims to unlock genuine life liberation
- [Slow down | Day 95 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84664-slow-down) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 5, 2023): Work is when we engage and take part. But the concept has become hollow, focused only on the monetary outcome. This is part of the suppression of women, of artists, and of freedom. When work became measurable by money and with the invention of the concept of BNP, the understanding of value changed, and we lost the awe of the very important work done by especially women.
- [Steepest decent | Day 94 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84666-steepest-decent) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 4, 2023): Sometimes I feel like a sheep when in big crowds of tourists. Yet at the same time, I am happy for all the other people who get to visit epic places and enjoy the cultural history or the wonders of nature as long as I can find the steepest decent fast when I need it.
- [Pantheon and Trastevere | Day 93 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84670-pantheon-and-trastevere) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 3, 2023): I am not particularly focused on my children learning world history. It is one of the many things that happen by itself while living a life with enough time. Whatever puzzles us, we can dive into it. We have time.
- [The things we learn | Day 92 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84676-the-things-welearn) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 2, 2023): Every week, write down the things we learned that week. I am sure I would gain a lot of peace of mind from doing such an exercise regularly. All loose ends tied in my mind. Anchoring of decisions, knowledge, and new info.
- [Pisa and Lucca | Day 91 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84677-pisa-and-lucca) by Cecilie Conrad (Apr 1, 2023): The leaning tower of Pisa truly is a must. So we went. To take the pictures, all the stupid ones and some extra stupid ones. Like everyone else. The vibe of these places is quite enjoyable. Everyone is having fun.
- [The importance of time | Day 90 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84678-the-importance-of-time) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 31, 2023): We have to ask ourselves why we have an epidemic of depression and of stress reactions. Both of these psychological states are about not being aligned with time, happy to be present in life.
- [Florence | Day 89 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84679-florence) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 30, 2023): Visiting the David is garnished with masterpieces of Florentine art from the 15th and 16th centuries. We have seen a lot in this genre before, and it could have been a replay. It was not. This museum truly holds masterpiece after masterpiece. We moved slowly.
- [My minimalist wardrobe | Day 88 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84681-my-minimalist-wardrobe) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 29, 2023): We have to face our modern society and how consumerism is consuming us. And our world. It is extremely hard to stop. We keep buying stuff, we keep accumulating, and we find new things to want all the time.

It also creates a space where we all agree on following the same rules for a while.
- [Florence American Cemetery | Day 86 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84690-florence-american-cemetery) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 27, 2023): Walking the graveyard and memorial yesterday with my husband and children and with my sister and her children sparked good conversations and deep thoughts. My oldest son just read a book where war is a deadly sin as it is an extreme waste of resources, the most valuable resources of all. I am reading Dante and on a similar thought pattern. So, we had an interesting conversation.
- [Family | Day 85 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/80409-family) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 26, 2023): Our psyche evolves, stabilizes, and thrives with other people. We are supposed to be close to our parents, siblings, children, spouses, cousins, and friends. Family is important. We have to take it seriously.

This time we wanted to come back to walk the trails along the coast between the cities and enjoy the beauty. we were in for a surprise!
- [From Verona to Cinque Terre | Day 83 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84714-from-verona-to-cinque-terre) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 24, 2023): I believe teenage girls need their mothers much more than our society appreciates and that the way we raise children in institutions, pushing them to grow “resilient,” “mature,” and “independent,” is all just a huge hoax tearing families apart, numbing and dumbing down emotions that are pure, true and natural.
- [Maintenance | Day 82 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/80000-maintenance) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 23, 2023): One advantage of living in a van is the number of things that need fixing/maintenance is much smaller compared to living in a house. Another advantage is once you start, you just have to finish. Otherwise, there is nowhere to live.
- [The fair city of Verona | Day 81 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84715-the-fair-city-of-verona) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 22, 2023): This is a general warning for everyone who loves Shakespeare. For everyone who loves literature. Maybe for everyone in general. Do not visit Juliet's house in Verona. Don't go anywhere near it. Not if you hold your view on humanity, dear.
- [Pausing | Day 80 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/84716-pausing) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 21, 2023): It is sometimes emotionally complicated to stop. - [Murano | Day 78 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85664-murano) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 19, 2023): Before we went to Venice, I almost booked a place to stay in Murano, not Venice. It looked almost the same. From Venice, you take the public boat and have one stop at the cemetery island before Morano. On the map, it looks much like Venice.
- [Guggenheim | Day 77 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/85665-guggenheim) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 18, 2023): Why do we do what we do? It is obvious that traveling is an adventure and from the outside, it looks like a lot of vacation. The first part is right, but the second is not. It is not a luxury project, nor an escape.
- [Birds, bridges and walking | Day 76 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93728-birds-bridges-and-walking) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 17, 2023): The feel of Venice is closely connected to walking. The experience of walking between houses, alongside canals, over bridges, over piazzas (and repeat) from narrow darkness to air and water, beauty upon beauty, over and over. Sometimes, there is a dead end. Sometimes, a surprising piazza.
- [Saint Marks Basilica | Day 75 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93730-birds-bridges-and-walking) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 16, 2023): It is funny how walking from Dorsodura, where we live, to the Saint Mark Basilica is a journey from a good tourist experience to something like hell.
- [Arriving in Venice | Day 74 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93741-arriving-in-venice) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 15, 2023): Ten years ago, we visited Venice for the first time. Our youngest son was just a little one, my hair was still short after cancer, and I still had many side effects after the treatment. My first visit to Venice was a clear example of the very good mantra: When you know what you don’t want, you know what you do want.

- [Overwhelmed by mosaic | Day 72 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93743-mosaic) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 13, 2023): Some days on our journey are so packed that it is simply impossible to reflect on them the next morning as my 365 challenge asks for. Sometimes, I have to let time pass, just do things slowly and not focus on my inner life, just allow things to settle.
- [Dante Alighieri and Donald Duck | Day 71 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93744-dante-alighieri) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 12, 2023): Ravenna showed up on our travel itinerary because of a Donald Duck story. It is funny how things are connected.
- [Yay, snow! | Day 70 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93745-yay-snow) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 11, 2023): We have crossed the mountains from the coast and sunshine to the coast, crossing a landscape of snow. And we lived in Sant’Oleo for three days looking at the mountains. Our exploration of Italy would not be fulfilled without actually visiting the snowcapped mountains.
- [We are not on vacation | Day 69 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93746-not-on-vacation) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 10, 2023): We are grateful to have a life from which we do not need a pause. As self-directed, we don’t do rules. The structure of a rule is not flexible and can never take into account all of the perspectives, possible circumstances, and special contexts
- [Crossing The Mountains | Day 66 of my 2023 Journal](https://www.cecilieconrad.com/blog/93752-crossing-the-mountains) by Cecilie Conrad (Mar 7, 2023): Crossing the Italian boot west to east was a humbling experience. I have said it before, but it is worth repeating. Mountains really are big.
