England, finally | Day 201 of my 2023 Journal of my 2023 Journal

Last year just around this time, we did not make it to England. Paperwork not in order. We had another great summer adventure, and it was all good. But NOW, we want to go to the lands of Shakespeare, Stonehenge, The Beatles, Queen Elisabeth, the Viking invasions, and you go on with the list.

Plus, as always, our people. Our British friends, our nomad friends currently in England, our extended family living there. There is so much to do and see and talk about, and we have only about five weeks to do it before walking the Camino again in September.

The shuttle was easy! And fun. We passed all the controls, the dogs, the French, and the British border.

Drove on to wait and cook lunch, and finally on the shuttle itself. Excited because for the first time in a very, very long time, we were going to a NEW place, an anticipated exploration of territory known from friends, movies, and literature!

On the other side, it was raining.

Of course.

Word has it always rains in England, but little did we think of it.

The challenge of driving on the wrong side of the road and deciphering the speed limits now in miles was sucking up our mental capacity.

The teens created a British playlist on Spotify, and we realized how many amazing artists come from this little place on Earth. So we sang along all the way to Martin's home, driving west in the south of England on small roads on the wrong side.

Martin and his family are friends from the Worldschool summit in Grenada in 2019, where we joined 78 other families for a week to discuss the lifestyle and just share who we are with people who do not think we are crazy. We have re-met many of the families since, but due to Covid and other distractions, we have not had the chance to meet Martin’s family again.

Therefore, it was the highest priority and the first thing we did after crossing the water: Drive on the wrong side of the road for a few hours to reunite with friends.

A beautiful beginning to our British adventure.

Love and light
