Saint Marks Basilica | Day 75 of my 2023 Journal

Cecilie Conrad·Mar 16, 2023· 2 minutes

It is funny how walking from Dorsodura, where we live, to the Saint Mark Basilica is a journey from a good tourist experience to something like hell.

Coming close to the Rialto bridge the amount of people intensifies, and more and more souvenir stands appear.

After the bridge, we almost walked in line with everyone else. Like everyone else, we wanted to see the basilica. So we did it even though it was quite horrible.

It becomes like walking in a shopping mall just outside. Brands for sale everywhere.

More and more expensive brands the closer you get.

But then it emerges.

The piazza.

The Basilica.

The tower.

The clock.

The reward.

We have seen a lot of places, and this one was worth it.

We bought some skip-the-line tickets and enjoyed the mosaics, lit some candles, and as soon as we had absorbed the beauty, we made it out of the intense area as quickly as possible.

I wonder what this would have been like in a school holiday?

Love and light
