I Resisted the Urge to Take Pictures and Found Magic in the Everyday | Day 308 of my 2023 Journal

Cecilie Conrad·Nov 5, 2023· 2 minutes

Distractions of the camera!

The highlight of this day was not the walk we did to the market or around the market, where the dandelion plastic flowers are made in China, but most other things are real and local. It was not the loneliness after the friends left but something that happened at the end of the day.

Several times, I almost ran back for my camera, but in the end, I fought off the idea to instead staying in the moment. On the rooftop terrace, there is a pool. In the sunset and the cooling off of the day, it is the most beautiful place to swim in the 25 m and mess around hugging and splashing with my children, with the birds sailing over.

The clouds assembling, occasional downpour, a little wind cooling off the warm air of the day, sounds from the street ever so distant yet confirming: We are surrounded by other people, yet alone on the rooftop, just exploring the water and the moment.

I might take that picture on another day of the silence, the magic, and the luxury of an evening like that.

With love

Unschooling and Parent consulting, conversations, blogposts, and podcasts on family life and learning

Hi, I'm Cecilie Conrad. I'm a trained psychologist, mother of four, radical unschooler and full-time traveller. I have lived with unschooling for over a decade and help other families find their own path – whether it is about homeschooling, unschooling, or the bigger question of how you want to live as a family.

I offer guidance, conversations and talks. I call my work grandmothering – not coaching in the traditional sense, but presence, professional insight and concrete help navigating motherhood and finding your way home to your own values.

Am I the right person to help you? You can book a free discovery call, and we'll talk and figure it out.

I share my knowledge and curiosity about family life and learning in my two podcasts.
