Everyday life as a nomad | Day 214 of my 2023 Journal

Cecilie Conrad·Aug 3, 2023· 3 minutes

Nomad life consists of a lot of change. New places. New people. New houses. New cultures. New kitchens. New habits. New options. New plans. Newly revised plans. Plan version 47B up for adjustment.

Also, there is a lot of transition. Packing. Unpacking. Driving. Looking at maps. More driving. More packing. Organizing. Planning. Revising the plan, and driving some more.

As in every life, just more obvious, there are many moving parts. Some places are too deserted, some too crowded, sometimes we feel lonely and miss like-minded people, and sometimes we are overwhelmed by festivals, family, parties, and coliving.

What we love about it is the option to change the premise. The fact, we do not have to decide on one lifestyle. We can be in metropolises for a while, then in the countryside, we can live with friends or in the community if that is the thing, or we can be vanlifers, just surfing around and exploring.

Another core element is the sense of urgency. We are here now. What is up with this place, what options do we have, and what do we need to do within this week in order to get it done? It can not wait; we are leaving soon.

This sense of urgency wakes you up and forces you to decide and revise what is more important. And why. It pushes us to stay focused, making sure we always do what is most important.

The flipside can be the lack of everyday life. Just chilling. And getting little things done. Like organizing corners, fixing small things, finishing projects that could wait a bit, calling friends, and removing nail polish. And the ease of knowing where things are. Shopping in a supermarket where you have been before, knowing what drawer to open to find a spoon.

This does not represent a real problem, just another adjustment.

Right now, we have been on one long road trip since February 1st, only staying for more than a week twice, most often shorter.

Now we need a bit of peace soon. A winter rest, some space for studying hard things and being a bit bored, and doing a lot of yoga and work. That is, after this summer road trip of more than six months, we are currently unfolding.

Love and light
